| The Choshoan Tea Room
(Main Building, seventh floor) |
Perhaps
one of the most soothing ways to enjoy the elegance of traditional Japan, the
tea ceremony transforms into a high art form the very basic act of enjoying a
cup of tea. Its beauty, as with much of Japanese art, is to be found in its simplicity
the tap of a water scoop against a bowl, the scrape of the whisk that mixes
the aromatic powder with water, the light splash of the water itself.
Hotel Okura's Choshoan Tea Room invites guests to
participate in an authentic tea ceremony. Sample freshly made green tea while
listening to the trickle of a nearby fountain and gazing out upon the rooftop
Winding River Garden. The tea room is open to first-timers and experienced "students
of tea" alike, and the hotel's tea masters are always willing to instruct
newcomers on the finer points of enjoying tea. |
